They provide specialised motor trade insurance policies like the minder policy (for businesses dealing with customers’ vehicles), trader policy (for businesses with their vehicles), and enthusiast policies (for part-time motor traders).
Tradex offers different types of commercial vehicle insurance products including; courier, catering van, and skip hire insurance. This policy also features a bonus booster for those without a no-claim bonus, unusual policies for flexible cover terms, etc.
Commercial vehicles include taxis, minibuses, trucks, tippers, HGVs and everything in between. They also specialise in fleet van insurance, which is a multi van insurance policy that covers businesses with multiple vehicles.

Liabilities insurance – They provide liability covers like employers’ liability and public liability. Their liability cover can be included as standard in other policies, but they also consider individual risks. Coverage Options:
- Comprehensive is the highest level of cover that is available. This schedule covers damage both third parties and also covers damages to your own taxi, property and self.
- Third party: This is the minimum level of cover required by UK law. This cover does not provide any protection for damage to your own vehicle or any injures to oneself resulting from an accident.
- Third party with Fire and Theft In addition to third party, cover is also provided for fire and theft.
- Break Down Cover : Taxi breakdown cover for private hire owner drivers and can save you many hours that would otherwise be lost had you not included it within your policy.
- Europe : Taxi insurance for driving abroad may be added as an extra if required.
- Public Liability : This protects the taxi driver against third-party claims for injuries or property damage incurred while conducting your business. This is a must-have cover for anyone working with the public. It often included by default in any quote provided by specialist taxi insurance providers. The cover is designed to cover any legal responsibilities that may arise, whether it’s a passenger slipping in your taxi or a pedestrian hurt in an accident.
How can I reduce the cost of taxi or private hire insurance?
If you are not in the chauffeur business, consider choosing a vehicle that is practical with a decent level of comfort and luxury, but also in one of the lower insurance brackets. After that, you could consider taking action on some ideas below.
- Install a taxi dash cam ( makes processing claims quicker and safeguards you from fraudulent claims )
- Most new vehicles come with an immobilizer fitted, if not make get one professionally installed and make sure it is compliant with the insurance industry
- Build up a no claim’s bonus, avoid making small claims, can help with this strategy.
- If possible, provide secure off-road parking when not working.
- Pay your insurance as a one off annual payment rather than choose monthly taxi insurance payments. For some, the extra fees are acceptable for the added ease of budgeting.
- Increase the policy excess, dosing should always reduce the insurance cost as you are taking more of the insurance responsibility
